James Tissot - Interview between Jesus and Nicodemus
Welcome to Worship - Sunday May 31st, 2020
Pentecost Sunday
Opening Prayer: |
If I knew you and you knew me,
And each of us could clearly see By that inner light divine The meaning of your heart and mine; I’m sure that we would differ less And clasp our hands in friendliness, If you knew me and I knew you. - Howard Thurman |
Entrance Hymn:
|
1. And are we yet alive,
and see each other's face? Glory and thanks to Jesus give for his almighty grace! 2. Preserved by power divine to full salvation here, again in Jesus' praise we join, and in his sight appear. 3. What troubles have we seen, what mighty conflicts past, fightings without, and fears within, since we assembled last! |
4. Yet out of all the Lord
hath brought us by his love; and still he doth his help afford, and hides our life above. 5. Then let us make our boast of his redeeming power, which saves us to the uttermost, till we can sin no more. 6. Let us take up the cross till we the crown obtain, and gladly reckon all things loss so we may Jesus gain. |

Prayer for Understanding:
|
Gracious God,
We see through a glass dimly and our minds lack the awareness to be understanding enough to love the way you would have us to love. So gather us in once more Shepherd our sentiments and Mind our meanderings so that we may listen and learn to love anew. Amen. |

The Lord's Prayer |
Love Divine, All Love's Excelling |
1 Love divine, all loves excelling,
Joy of heav'n to earth come down: fix in us thy humble dwelling, all thy faithful mercies crown: Jesus, thou art all compassion, pure, unbounded love thou art; visit us with thy salvation, enter ev'ry trembling heart. 2 Breathe, O breathe thy loving Spirit into ev'ry troubled breast; let us all in thee inherit, let us find the promised rest: take away the love of sinning; Alpha and Omega be; End of faith, as its Beginning, set our hearts at liberty. 3 Come, Almighty to deliver, let us all thy life receive; suddenly return, and never, nevermore thy temples leave. Thee we would be always blessing, serve thee as thy hosts above, pray and praise thee without ceasing, glory in thy perfect love. 4 Finish, then, thy new creation; pure and spotless let us be: let us see thy great salvation perfectly restored in thee; changed from glory into glory, 'til in heav'n we take our place, 'til we cast our crowns before thee, lost in wonder, love, and praise. |

Prayers of the People: |
From Howard Thurman:
"All around us worlds are dying and new worlds are being born; All around us life is dying and life is being born. The fruit ripens on the tree; the roots are silently at work in the darkness of the earth Against the time when there shall be new leaves, fresh blossoms, green fruit. Such is the growing edge! It is the extra breath from the exhausted lung, the one more thing to try when all else has failed, the upward reach of life when weariness closes in upon all endeavor. This is the basis of hope in moments of despair, the incentive to carry on when times are out of joint and men have lost their reason, the source of confidence when worlds crash and dreams whiten into ash. The birth of a child — life’s most dramatic answer to death -- this is the growing edge incarnate. Look well to the growing edge! Turn us not away, O God, from the infinite glory of the commonplace. Be with us and in us, our Father, as we go our separate ways, and grant that we be not deceived into dependence merely upon our own minds and our own spirits. Out of Thy long wisdom with Thy children, tutor our spirits, tutor our spirits, O God our Father." Amen. Visit our Prayer Ministries page and join us in specific prayer. We are so grateful for your immediate engagement with the prayer request form.

Recessional Hymn: This Is My Song |
1) This is my song O God of all the nations
A song of peace for lands afar and mine This is my home the country where my heart is Here are my hopes my dreams my holy shrine But other hearts in other lands are beating With hopes and dreams as true and high as mine 2) My country's skies are bluer than the ocean And sunlight beams on cloverleaf and pine But other lands have sunlight too and clover And skies are everywhere as blue as mine O hear my song Thou God of all nations A song of peace for their land and for mine 3) This is my prayer O Lord of all earth's kingdoms Thy kingdom come on earth Thy will be done Let Christ be lifted up till all shall serve Him And hearts united learn to live as one O hear my prayer Thou God of all nations Myself I give Thee let Thy will be done |
Benediction: |
