Welcome to Worship - Sunday May 17, 2020
6th Sunday after Easter
Opening Prayer: |
You have prepared this day
for the explicit purpose of lingering with us. The dawn is the open door to where you abide. There is no need to knock; you are waiting to welcome us. The table is set all is simple and not a thing to fuss about Everything we need or want is here with you we just simply need to let go of our expectations of the day and linger in the beauty of what you've prepared. Amen. |
Entrance Hymn:
|
1. All hail the power of Jesus' name!
Let angels prostrate fall, let angels prostrate fall; bring forth the royal diadem, and crown him, crown him, crown him, crown him, and crown him Lord of all. 2. Ye chosen seed of Israel's race, ye ransomed from the fall, ye ransomed from the fall, hail him who saves you by his grace, and crown him, crown him, crown him, crown him, and crown him Lord of all. 3. Sinners, whose love can ne'er forget the wormwood and the gall, the wormwood and the gall, go spread your trophies at his feet, and crown him, crown him, crown him, crown him, and crown him Lord of all. |
4. Let every kindred, every tribe
on this terrestrial ball, on this terrestrial ball, to him all majesty ascribe, and crown him, crown him, crown him, crown him, and crown him Lord of all. 5. Crown him, ye martyrs of your God, who from his altar call, who from his altar call; extol the Stem of Jesse's Rod, and crown him, crown him, crown him, crown him, and crown him Lord of all. 6. O that with yonder sacred throng we at his feet may fall, we at his feet may fall! We'll join the everlasting song, and crown him, crown him, crown him, crown him, and crown him Lord of all. Prayer for Understanding |
We are nudged
and we are pointed in your direction by those who've witnessed you who've seen you for who you truly are and so we have followed based on their testimony and yet you ask us "what are you looking for?" and if we are honest we may not be exactly sure we're just beginners at this, really so all we can do is ask "where do you abide?" as if that may give us some clue as for what our hearts are yearning but help us to see that perhaps the best prayer for understanding is breathing listening lingering with you. May we not find that for which we are striving rather, may we be found by you and in your embrace may we find our striving has ceased. Amen. |

The Lord's Prayer |
Hymn: Lord, You have Come to the Lakeshore |
Lord, You have come to the lakeshore
Looking neither for wealthy nor wise ones You only asked me to follow humbly O Lord, with Your eyes You have searched me And while smiling have spoken my name Now my boat's left on the shoreline behind me By Your side I will seek other seas You know so well my possessions My boat carries no gold and no weapons You will find there, my nets and labor You need my hands full of caring Through my labors to give others rest And constant love that keeps on loving O Lord, with Your eyes You have searched me And while smiling have spoken my name Now my boat's left on the shoreline behind me By Your side I will seek other seas You, who have fished other oceans Ever longed for by souls who are waiting My loving friend, as thus You call me Author: Cesareo Gabaraín Translator: Gertrude C. Recessional Hymn: Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing |
1. Come, thou Fount of every blessing,
tune my heart to sing thy grace; streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above. Praise the mount! I'm fixed upon it, mount of thy redeeming love. 2. Here I raise mine Ebenezer; hither by thy help I'm come; and I hope, by thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home. Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God; he, to rescue me from danger, interposed his precious blood. |
3. O to grace how great a debtor
daily I'm constrained to be! Let thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to thee. Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love; here's my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above. Words: Robert Robinson (1758) Music: NETTLETON |
Benediction: |
May the preparing presence of God invite you,
May the lingering presence of Christ surround you, May the refreshing presence of the Spirit enfold you, Now and forevermore. Amen. |
